About

LapTally is a set of free running tools: pace calculators, pace charts and printable pace bands, race predictions, training paces, calorie estimates, and track, triathlon and bike calculators. There is no account and no sign-up, and nothing you type leaves your browser. Every tool is listed on the all tools page.

Who runs it

LapTally is an independent site with no ties to a shoe brand, a watch maker, a coaching service or a race organiser. There is nothing to sell you. Corrections are welcome at hello@laptally.com; when a reader reports an error, the page is fixed and its review date updated.

How the numbers are worked out

All tools run on one small calculation engine in your browser, so a pace on one page matches the same pace on every other page. Every result shows its working, and each page explains the formula with a worked example you can repeat by hand. The printed charts are produced by the same engine when the site is built.

Where a tool depends on research, the page names it and links the source at the bottom with the date it was checked: Riegel's endurance formula for race predictions, the Daniels and Gilbert oxygen-cost equations for VDOT, the ACSM metabolic equations for treadmill and calorie estimates, Minetti and colleagues for grade adjusted pace, and the World Athletics track rules for lane distances. Where a value is an assumption rather than a measured figure, such as the drag area in the cycling calorie calculator, the page says so and lets you change it.

What is not here

No medical advice: heart rate, fuelling, hydration and calorie tools give estimates for healthy adults, and anyone with a medical condition should follow their doctor or dietitian. No accounts, no training logs and no race calendars. No promises about weight loss or race results. The privacy page explains what the site stores.
